What’s included in an SJU Dining Plan?

Hawk Dining Plans include Meal Swipes and Dining Dollars, conveniently loaded onto your Hawk Card. All students with a Dining Plan have access to Kettle Dining Hall at Hawk Hill and P.O.D. Market/Freshens at University City plus Dining Dollars to use at all Hawk Dining locations across both campuses.

Swipes

Meal Swipes

Meal Swipes are included in your Dining Plan and are used to enter Kettle Dining Hall at Hawk Hill campus and P.O.D. Market/Freshens at University City campus. While some Hawk Dining plans provide a weekly allowance of Meal Swipes, resetting every Monday, other provide a bundle of Meal Swipes at the start of each semester. Meal Swipes may not be used during semester breaks when the University is not in session. Meal Swipe balances do not carry over from fall to spring semester and expire at the end of each semester.

Exchange

Meal Exchange

Students can use their Meal Swipes as a Meal Exchange outside of Kettle Dining Hall and Wilson Dining Hall in designated retail campus dining locations. A Meal Exchange is a set combo meal such as an entrée, side item and beverage. Each location's meal exchange may vary. Students can use their Meal Swipes as a Meal Exchange at Moe’s Southwest Grille, Jamba Juice, Auntie Anne’s, FoodLab, B+F, Hawk Wrap, and The Spread located in Kettle Food Court at Hawk Hill and Freshens at University City.

Each and every meal plan comes with a set amount of swipes, and as part of those swipes, a set amount that can be utilized as "meal exchange" in our retail outlets.  For instance, The Block 25 comes with 25 meal swipes and 15 of those meal swipes can be used as meal exchange. Each time a purchase is made using a meal exchange meal, it deducts 1 swipe from the total balance of 25 meals that come with the plan.  If 15 meal exchanges are used in retail, 10 swipes would remain for use in the Kettle.  If 20 swipes are used in the Kettle, it would leave a balance of 5 swipes to be used at either the Kettle or the Drop, for a total of 25 swipes.  Additional Meal Exchanges cannot be purchased, but additional block plans can always be added at any point during the semester OR you can upgrade your plan to one that includes more meal exchanges early in the semester

Dollars

Dining Dollars

Dining Dollars are funds that are included in your dining plan and can be used like a debit card at all Hawk Dining locations. Every time you use your Dining Dollars the amount of the transaction is deducted from your account balance; you may not spend more value than you have. Dining Dollars may be used in select locations during semester breaks. Dining Dollar balances carry over from the fall to spring semester and expire at the end of the spring semester.
